Lake George
A weekend getaway
Bryan and I had a bit of a rough year this year with Bryan losing his job in December, trying out starting a business for him just as Lewis was born, starting a new job in April, and then just the stress that comes with that. Add in the fact that we were audited and had to spend hours and hours getting everything together, not to mention the stress of having two little ones running around and we were due for a weekend away. It was our first time leaving Lewis (well, I left Lewis when I was in Charleston last week, but our first time leaving with no parents present) and apart from me getting sick, it couldn't have been more perfect.
Accomodations
We stayed at The Chateau on the Lake Inn and it was incredible!! It had a really comfortable king bed with an absolutely breathtaking view from our balcony. The place was decorated nicely and the shower was super nice as well. They even gave us cute little robes which I thought was fun! The fire was fun to turn on and they gave us two bottles of fancy water - sparkling and still. I really could go on and on about how wonderful this place was. Plus, there was no check in/check out. The key was just waiting for us in the door when we got here and we left it there on our way out. When I texted the owner asking about what time we needed to leave Sunday morning, he responded "take your time" which was so nice of him! Not only that, but we got the place as a deal because it said they were understaffed and wouldn't be doing cleaning service but when we got back from our shopping, I found that we had fresh towels waiting for us in the bathroom! I can't say if they would have made the bed or not because I actually made it in the morning so I could take photos when the sun was out as we arrived late Friday, but I was very much impressed. We will for sure be coming back again!
Lunch
We had lunch at The Algonquin restaurant which was right on the water and it was so so fun to sit outside and have that gorgeous view of Lake George. This was a restaurant that I looked into for dinner but ultimately we decided to go to The Boathouse for dinner (photos not pictured because we took a nap after our shopping trip and so we arrived after the sun had set - which was my one regret of the trip since it would have been really nice to see the view of the lake in the daylight while we were at that cute restaurant too but oh well). The service and the food at The Algonquin was really good!! On Friday night at midnight my stomach started really hurting. By 2 am I was crying it hurt so badly. I had sharp pains and I literally considered going to the hospital. I had Bryan say a prayer for me and after a bit I was able to go back to sleep. I felt better in the morning but still not totally well and I woke up with a runny nose so it wasn't my best day physical health wise, but I decided to try to get something for lunch that would be easier on the stomach - so I did my best to stay away from fried food and such. Luckily I was fine by Sunday morning and I was still well enough to enjoy our lunch and shopping!! But check out that view of the dock which was literally a view right from our lunch table!!
Shopping
Bryan and I had a blast holding hands and walking through these cute little lakeside towns! I got a super cute sweatshirt (I am a sucker for a nice font in all lower case - I have another shirt that says "the cape" on it in small letters and I just love it). We also got Bryan's mom a bracelet as a thank you for taking care of our children last week while I was in Charleston and this weekend. We got a gift for my parents that I will give to them when I see them next month and, of course, Bryan found a few shops selling cards (for those of you who don't know, my husband loves sports cards). We walked along the lake, got some tums for me, and had a nice time leisurely strolling around town. After shopping, I wasn't feeling the best so we went back to our room and I took a nice nap - something I rarely get to do these days! At dinner we went all out and I ordered the Filet Mignon which was absolutely delicious and satisfying and Bryan got something from their Oktoberfest menu which he always loves so all in all, a fantastic day!
Headed home
It was a short weekend and after walking around town and snapping a few photos behind our Inn, we headed home. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, every 6 months we have the opportunity to hear our prophet and other leaders speak to us and it happens that this was Conference weekend. So Bryan and I played catch up and listened to Saturday's sessions on the drive home which was really nice because it helped pass the 3.5 hour drive pretty quickly! (Though it was fun choosing music together on the drive up too). And when I got home and turned on the Sunday Afternoon session of Conference with Nellie there, it gave me an even deeper appreciation for the time I had to actually listen and hear Conference in the car since I didn't hear much with Nellie talking to me and trying to get me to play the whole time. Looks like I will be listening to multiple sessions again.
But seriously, this weekend was just what we needed. I've heard it said that having a baby is hard on your marriage, and that wasn't the case for us with our first baby, but I do think adding in a second to the mix was harder this time. Maybe it was just all the stressful things that have been happening in our life in general, but either way, this weekend reminded me why I fell in love with Bryan in the first place. Not that I had fallen out of love with him, but I just had been getting so caught up in taking care of these children that I kind of forgot what life was like when it was just me and him, and turns out we really do have a lot of fun together!!
I am grateful for this weekend. I am grateful for Bryan's parents for staying at our house and taking care of the little ones and I am grateful that I was able to have a very relaxing vacation, even amidst my strange stomach sickness and runny nose. And hey, if I were home this weekend I would not have been able to relax and take naps like I did so, cheers to that and cheers to the fact that I am feeling much much better now!
