"... AND HE TOOK THEIR LITTLE CHILDREN, ONE BY ONE, AND BLESSED THEM, AND PRAYED UNTO THE FATHER FOR THEM"

Today, Jan 7th, there was a huge snowstorm and our church was cancelled. Instead of having the baby blessing at church, we gathered as a small group in our home and Bryan held our little one in his arms and gave him a priesthood blessing. Similar to Christening in other religions, we follow the example of Jesus Christ and give our babies a blessing. We don't get baptized until the age of eight, but just as in Christening, we give a name and a blessing to our babies when they are born. When Christ was on the Earth, He invited the people to bring their children unto Him, and He blessed them one by one.

Bryan gave a beautiful blessing and I am so happy that my dad could also be part of the circle. Little Lewis was wrapped in the blanket that Nellie was blessed in - a blanket my sister brought back from Bethlehem. It is so special that not only can our children share in this special tradition, but that it symbolizes the example of Christ that I hope they can follow. Bryan blessed little Lewis to be kind just like his namesakes - his grandfathers and great grandfather, and to be intellectual in a long and happy life. It was very sweet and I am so grateful that after all of the moving parts (Lewis potentially not arriving in time before my dad flew home, Kevin having to plow all day long and potentially not being able to make it to church, etc) that it all worked out and it was a special day.
